Pictures of Lucky the Duck and friends (25 pictures)

In the Olympus Talk Forum of dpreview.com, a group of photographers has been taking pictures of Lucky the Duck and then mailing the ducks to the next photographer on the list. I got the ducks on October 30th, 2009. The pbase album that collects Lucky the Duck pictures is at:

For some of the shots (Hallowe'en tales and the photo shoot picture), I used manual focusing using live view, which is a technique that I had not really explored before. I put the camera on the tripod and used my wired shutter release to fire the camera. I have a picture of the setup in the album. I used the info button to get the live view screen with the green square, and then positioned the square to the item I was focusing on, and hit the ok button to provide a 7x image of the selected area (usually the duck).

For the candlelight shots, I shot in slow sync 2 mode, which means the camera primarily shoots the scene with the available light, and then just before closing the shutter, it fires the flash. I played around with flash exposure compensation to get the effect that I wanted. I did forget to lock the ISO, so the camera did decide to bump up the ISO to 800 or so. Other than the candle light and the flash, there was just a hint of light from the dining room, but it didn't contribute to the shot.

In the photo shoot picture, you see Nutzo who is my personal mascot and accompanies me to renaissance faires and science fiction conventions. He started out in life as a finger puppet that Santa gave me for Christmas in 2008 when we went to my father's house in Illinois. In February, my wife made him a green renaissance flat cap that matches the hat in my green and yellow costume along with the tiny clay camera. As of November, my wife and I are planning to give him a girlfriend who is an painter instead of photographer (after all painters are more period to the renaissance). At the renaissance faire, Nutzo usually resides on my walking stick or on top of the camera.

Here are some of the albums Nutzo has appeared in.
