My local steampunk festival, Watch City Steampunk, which is held in Waltham, Massachusetts, has decided to import this fine custom . The pictures in this group are my entry for 2016.
I started with a Disney Test Track radio controlled car, and modded it, slicing off the back roll bar. I ruined my first car, and had to get a second one.
I then attached a wood base, which is held onto the car with velcro.
I found a candle holder in the shape of a tea pot to use for my racer. Since the theme for this year's Watch City Steampunk is a Kraken threatening Waltham, I put a finger puppet octopus on top of the tea pot.
Inside I have a Teensy LC that runs the neopixel LED rings, and a standalone MP3 player playing some tea related songs. Originally, it was going to be a Teensy 3.2 with the new prop shield, which can play music as well as running the LEDs, but I did some mistakes with soldering, and I didn't have time to recover before the festival, and added the MP3 player.

I soldered longer wires on to the battery, wrapped the battery in velcro (tm) and made a strain relief by looping the wires twice around the velco pieces. |
